The Rise of Statement Flats

The Rise of Statement Flats

If there's one thing I've learnt over the last few years of building Drunch, it's that women are no longer willing to choose between looking good and feeling comfortable.

When I first started designing footwear, I thought everyone was looking for the perfect heel. After all, heels have always been the "special occasion" shoe. But after speaking to hundreds of customers, watching what people naturally gravitated towards, and honestly looking at my own wardrobe, I realised something interesting.

We were all reaching for our flats.

Not because we had to, but because we genuinely wanted to.

The challenge? Most flats were either comfortable but forgettable, or beautiful but impractical. There wasn't much in between.

That's exactly why I believe statement flats are having such a big moment.

It Really Hit Me at The Lil Flea

One of my favourite memories as a founder was meeting customers at The Lil Flea. There's something incredibly valuable about stepping away from a screen and hearing unfiltered feedback from women trying on your products in real time.

One conversation kept repeating itself throughout the weekend.

Women would try on our heels, smile, walk around in them and tell us, "These are actually so comfortable!" Some of them couldn't believe they could wear heels that looked elegant without feeling uncomfortable.

Many of them bought those heels.

But almost immediately after, they'd ask us something else.

"Do you have more flats like these?"

"I'd wear these every single day."

"I need more statement flats for work, brunch, travel... basically everything."

That was such an eye-opening moment for me.

People weren't looking for plain everyday footwear. They wanted shoes that still felt special. They wanted flats with personality. Shoes that made an outfit feel complete without waiting for a wedding or a party to wear them.

It reminded me that fashion isn't just about dressing up for occasions anymore. It's about making everyday moments feel a little more beautiful.

Fashion Has Changed. So Have We.

Today's woman wears a dozen different hats in a single day.

She might start with a coffee meeting, head to work, squeeze in a lunch date, catch a flight for the weekend, and end the evening at dinner with friends.

Our shoes need to keep up.

I don't think fashion is about owning the loudest pair of shoes anymore. It's about finding pieces that quietly elevate every outfit while still being comfortable enough to wear all day.

That's where statement flats for women come in.

They're stylish without trying too hard, comfortable without looking basic, and versatile enough to work with almost everything in your wardrobe.

What Makes a Flat Feel Special?

For me, a statement flat isn't defined by how many embellishments it has.

It's about the little details.

A beautiful texture.

An unexpected silhouette.

A metallic finish that catches the light.

A shape that makes someone stop and ask, "Where are your shoes from?"

The best fashionable flat sandals don't compete with your outfit. They complete it.

The Three Pairs I'd Reach for Again and Again

When we designed these styles at Drunch, the goal wasn't to chase trends. It was to create sandals that women would genuinely want to wear on repeat.

Coral Sandals

The Coral Sandals were inspired by seaside holidays and everything I love about effortless resort dressing.

They're the pair I'd pack first for a vacation because they work just as well with a linen co-ord at brunch as they do with a flowy dress for dinner.

If you're searching for vacation sandals for women or resort wear sandals, these are made for exactly that.

Polka Sandals

The Polka Sandals have a playful personality without feeling over the top.

Some days, your outfit is simple, and all it needs is one interesting detail. That's exactly what these bring.

They're easy to wear with denim, cotton dresses, tailored shorts, or even relaxed workwear.

Dune Flats

The Dune Flats are probably the pair I'd recommend to almost anyone.

Minimal, timeless and incredibly versatile, they're the kind of shoes you find yourself wearing far more often than you expected because they simply go with everything.

Sometimes the quietest designs become the hardest-working pieces in your wardrobe.

Comfort Is Finally Becoming Fashionable

One of my favourite shifts in fashion is that comfort is no longer seen as a compromise.

Women are walking more, travelling more and living fuller lives than ever before.

Why should we have to carry an extra pair of shoes just to survive the day?

The rise of comfortable flat sandals isn't just a trend. It's a reflection of how women actually live.

Why We Built Drunch This Way

When I started Drunch, I didn't want to create another footwear brand.

I wanted to design shoes that women would actually look forward to wearing. Shoes that could travel with you, celebrate milestones with you, become part of your favourite memories, and still feel just as comfortable hours later.

The conversations at The Lil Flea reinforced that vision. They reminded me that women don't just want beautiful shoes. They want beautiful shoes they'll actually wear.

And if we've done our job right, our statement flats won't stay in the cupboard waiting for a special occasion. They'll become the pair you instinctively reach for on an ordinary Tuesday, because that's where real life happens.

Final Thoughts

I don't think statement flats are simply another seasonal trend.

I think they're changing the way women approach fashion.

They're practical without feeling plain, elegant without sacrificing comfort, and versatile enough to become the pair you reach for again and again.

To me, that's what great footwear should do. It shouldn't just complete an outfit. It should make you excited to step out the door, whether you're heading on holiday, meeting friends for brunch, or simply going about your everyday life.
